Producer Timbaland spoke about that situation in an interview with The Breakfast Club. He said what a lot of fans say constantly. People think and feel that had Aaliyah was still alive, she would be more successful or just as successful as Beyoncé is today. I would like to know if you agree or disagree. Check out the scoop after the break.
On Aaliyah“I think she’d be Beyonce status” he says. “Cause she was the first one that’s doing all those things. I’ll tell you straight up… She wasn’t the fabulous singer. She was a great singer. Could she probably beat Beyonce? No, but if she had more practice up til now, she could’ve been as good as Beyonce, with a lighter tone.” SOURCEOn New Aaliyah Music Rumors"I know they tryna drop some records. I got something that I never put out. I’m trying to get one done now just for the fans, but if he [Drake] do it, it should be with me and him and Missy. The best decision what the fans would want to see is all three of us. It can’t be something to make money off of ’cause I think it’s wrong to make money off the dead." SOURCE

In reguards to this new music, I'm very excited to hear it! I've been waiting for new tunes since 2004 and it's been a long time coming! I hope somethings gets released soon. I also respect the fact that Timbaland isn't looking to make any money from these releases. That says a lot about him as a producer and shows that he still has respect for his friend.
As far as the whole Beyoncé thing goes, I've voiced my opinion on that situation a gazillion of times. I honestly believe the same thing. She was one of the firsts (of my generation) to sing, dance and act. She was becoming what a lot of people (Beyoncé & Rihanna) are today. She kind of paved that way for them. Some people say that "oh we will never know so lets not compare the two." Others say that they feels that Aaliyah would be in the same sinking boat as other struggling R&B artists who we're big in the 90's and are trying to make it today (Brandy, Monica, Toni Braxton, Mya etc...)
But I beg to differ. Simply because none of those ladies that I mentoned above weren't trying to become triple threats. With the exception of Brandy because she did movies and had a television show...but I digress. Aaliyah's work was more noticed than Brandy's. Her soundtrack contributions won her awards and accolades as well as her work in Romeo Must Die. It opened doors for her. Monica or Mya wasn't into acting or, mostly singing.
Aaliyah wanted to do it all. She traveled the world and worked hard for all that she'd achieved. Right before she died she had a slew of movies lined up just waiting for her but we never got to see her fill those shoes and it sucks. That's one of the reasons why fans think that she would have been a hot shot today. But I'll stop my ranting and just simply ask you what do you think? Would Aaliyah have been on Beyoncé's level if she was still alive today?
