Actress Yvette Wilson Dies of Cancer / by

I know you all remember the lovely and funny Yvette Wilson who played Andell Wikerson on the hit 90's show Moesha and The Parkers. She also made a funny appearnace on the hit movie Friday with Ice Cube and Chris Tucker.

I am sad to report that the actress has lost her battle with cancer. She passed away yesterday. The news broke via Twitter after her best friend and fellow actress Shar Jackson tweeted her sorrow about losing her friend.

Over the past few months, Yvette publicly reached out to fans and friends for donations to help her battle the cancer fight. A website was created to help with fundraising and it managed to get only $13,000 out of the $25,000 needed. Check out the article after the break.

The Twittersphere is mourning the death of former ‘Moesha’ star Yvette Wilson, who played Andell Wilkerson. She was 48 years old. As previously reported by, Wilson was suffering with Stage 4 cervical cancer and was in dire need of funds in order to pay her mounting medical bills.

Shar Jackson has been sending out tweets asking for prayers for her friend and co-star for the last few days:

On June 11, 2012: G.U [MY] Inspiration ‏@_ILoveUGabU : RT @itsgabrielleu: !!RT @SharJackson: Everyone plz send prayer and light to my sister and best friend Yvette Wilson…..

‏@SharJackson : F**k Cancer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
‏@SharJackson: Oh god….. My heart is soooo unbelievably broken ….
‏@SharJackson: I wanna thank all my tweeties for their prayers but god has chosen to take my sister Yvette home.. …

Since that time, the condolences have been pouring in for Jackson, who played Moesha’s best friend Niecy Jackson on the show. Wilson’s death has also been confirmed on her Wikipedia page.

Wilson, who also co-starred on ‘The Parkers’ with comedienne Monique’ and such memorable films such as “House Party 2,” “House Party 3,” and ”Friday,” was not only battling cancer but has also been plagued with kidney problems and needed kidney transplant as well.

Friend Jeffrey Pittle, a stage 4 cancer survivor himself, created a website for Wilson, so that people could donate money for not only her medical needs but also help with any transportation costs that are associated with her getting to various medical facilities. To date, the site had raised $13,599 of the $25,000 they were seeking — or 54 percent.

The fundraiser ended June 9, 2012. As previously reported by, Wilson is the fifth tragedy that has occurred from the “Moesha” show. Star Brandy Norwood struck and killed a woman with her vehicle. Merlin Santana, who played Moesha’s first boyfriend, “Ohaji,” was only 26 years young when he was shot dead in California as he sat in the passenger seat of a car.

Mac, who had the recurring role of “Uncle Mitchell” and was Andell’s boyfriend, died in 2008 from complications of pneumonia. The ever-popular “Hakeem,” Moesha’s sidekick who was played by Lamont Bentley, was killed in a car crash more than 6 years ago.

Other colleagues and stars have begun sharing their condolences via Twitter:

News One

It's saddens me that none of her celebrity friends reached out and helped with with the money woes. I'm sure she still have fans and friends in the business that could have easily donated the  full $25,000 to her. It's shame.

On the other hand, it all was so quite. It was kind of on the hush. The word didn't get out until last minute about her having cancer. I read about it last month and now she;s already gone. May her soul rest in peace.

It's also kind of odd that they pointed out all of the deaths of the cast members who was on the show.  I shall leave you with a few memorable moments with the funny Yvette Willson.
